BCA adds Aviloo battery warranty to European used-EV offering

BCA now offers its European customers a battery warranty from Austrian specialist Aviloo alongside independent battery health reports for used electric vehicles. The partners say the additional protection is intended to build buyer confidence and help dealers sell used EVs.

Coverage tied to an individual battery assessment

The AVILOO Battery Warranty provides coverage for one year, with a mileage limit of 20,000 km. Aviloo sets a minimum State of Health (SoH) for each vehicle. If the battery falls below that threshold within the warranty's limits, the buyer receives compensation and a refund of the FLASH Test costs. The payout is €3,000 in most European countries and £2,700 ($3,600) in the UK.

The warranty requires Aviloo's FLASH Test, which takes three minutes and connects through the vehicle's OBD port. This independent diagnostic uses a statistical model to calculate SoH rather than taking the battery health reading from the car's dashboard. Aviloo says the test covers more than 96% of available brands.

While the battery report assesses current condition, the warranty adds protection against a subsequent decline below the vehicle's calculated SoH threshold.

Why individual battery condition matters

Battery condition is a key consideration in a used-EV purchase, but age and mileage alone provide only a limited picture. SoH describes the battery's health and gives buyers and sellers another basis for valuing the vehicle.

Aviloo's first AVILOO Certified EV Battery Report illustrates how much condition can differ among vehicles. Published on August 2, 2026, it analyzed more than 500,000 independent FLASH tests conducted from 2022 through 2026 across 20 popular EV models. At 150,000 km, median SoH for the models studied ranged from 87% to 94%.

The report also found SoH differences of up to 13.5% between the best and worst examples of the same model. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 with a 72.6-kWh battery had a median SoH of 92.8% at 150,000 km, yet individual vehicles differed by more than 12 percentage points.

Michael Schneider, Aviloo's team lead for direct sales in Germany, said in a company statement that buyers often know little about the battery despite its central role in an EV. He said independent documentation gives dealers an objective way to explain battery condition, build trust and support sales, making purchase decisions easier when that condition is clearly documented.

Norbert Gerits, director of operations at BCA Germany, said buyers want to know both the battery's current condition and the performance they can expect in the future.

European rollout and remarketing use

BCA is incorporating the diagnostics and warranty into its European remarketing services. The company says it operates in more than 15 countries and has more than 56 locations across Europe.

Aviloo initially launched the warranty in France and Sweden on June 1, 2026, before expanding it in stages. By September, the company said coverage was available in 26 European countries, including Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain and Poland.

Other companies also use Aviloo's testing services. Auction group Cox Automotive has incorporated the FLASH Test into its European operations. Mercedes-Benz, Volvo and Porsche Holding have each chosen Aviloo as their preferred independent third-party battery testing provider, while leasing companies Ayvens and Arval use it when remarketing vehicles at the end of a lease.
