Masked thieves smash Wedding jewelry store window with shovel

Two masked people stole jewelry from a store on Müllerstraße in Berlin's Wedding neighborhood on November 3 after smashing its display window with a shovel, Berlin police said. They escaped by car toward Seestraße.

Getaway car carried stolen plates

The car pulled up outside the store at about 8:50 a.m., according to preliminary police findings and witness accounts. Two masked people got out, broke the window with a shovel and took jewelry from the display before fleeing in the vehicle.

Police said the car's license plates had previously been stolen. A burglary unit at Polizeidirektion 1 (Nord) is investigating, according to police report No. 1466, released November 4, 2026.

Earlier burglary near Müllerstraße and Seestraße

A jewelry store in the same area was burgled in April 2019, though the intruders used a different route into the premises. According to t-online, they entered an adjacent café at the corner of Müllerstraße and Seestraße, then broke through the wall separating it from the jewelry store.

Once inside, they destroyed glass display cases and stole jewelry. Witnesses noticed the break-in at 12:20 a.m. and alerted police.

Other Berlin break-ins used vehicles to force entry

Berlin has also repeatedly experienced vehicle-ramming break-ins, known as "Blitzeinbrüche," in which thieves drive into shops to gain access to valuables, according to rbb's Täter-Opfer-Polizei program. In the latest Wedding incident, police described the use of a shovel to break the window, not a vehicle.

One vehicle-ramming case, described by rbb and Berlin police report No. 0326, occurred around 3:20 to 3:30 a.m. on March 23, 2026, at a Galeria department store on Schloßstraße in Steglitz. Several men drove a car through the glass facade, then rammed the entrance to a jewelry store inside. They smashed display cases and took jewelry and watches whose value had not yet been determined.

The men left the car behind and escaped in a second vehicle toward Feuerbachstraße. A burglary unit at Polizeidirektion 4 (Süd) took over the investigation.

Rbb reported two more break-ins using a similar method on April 2, 2026: sports goods were taken from an Adidas store on Münzstraße in Mitte, and a fireplace was stolen from a shop on Eresburgstraße in Schöneberg. Berlin police appealed for witnesses to both incidents and the March 23 burglary in Steglitz.
